Directions to HERL from Johnstown

• Take 22 towards Pittsburgh. Get on 376 towards Pittsburgh.
• Take the Churchill exit (Route 8 North)
• Follow Route 8 (Penn Ave. to Fifth Avenue. Turn right on Fifth.
• Fifth Avenue will eventually become Washington Blvd.
• Make a right onto Highland Dr. Continue up hill into VA complex.

DIRECTIONS FROM OAKLAND TO HERL

Come out of Oakland on 5th Ave through Shadyside.  You will cross Penn Ave, 5th then turns into Washington.  Continue straight under the narrow railroad bridge through three stoplights.  Once you get near the forth light you will see blue and white signs for the VA.  At the forth light (leech farm road/highland drive) make a right and follow the road to the Y.  At the Y you will stay to your left and continue to the top of the hill where you will see the VA complex...stay to your right. You will pass a parking lot on your right and then get to one on your left, try to park in that lot.  Come in the building at the covered entrance and make a right. Take the elevators to the 2^nd floor. Go left as you exit the elevator and left down the hall into HERL. There is a sign on the door that says Human Engineering Research Laboratories.

Directions from Pittsburgh International Airport to HERL

Follow Route 60 toward Pittsburgh; take 279 E through the tunnel and into the city; take exit marked Route 28 (Etna/Sharpsburgh); follow Route 28 until you see the signs for Highland Park Bridge; take bridge exit and get immediately into the left lane; you will cross the bridge and proceed around a cloverleaf and it will feed you onto Allegheny River Blvd.  At first stoplight, go RIGHT onto Washington Blvd. Get in left lane and at first stoplight, make a left onto Highland Drive (Leech Farm Road).  Follow signs up the hill to the VA (keep left at the Y midway up the hill).

From Points South/West

279 N (Parkway West) through Fort Pitt Tunnels;

Monroeville Exit onto 376E; Squirrel Hill Exit; first LEFT into Squirrell Hill (Beechwood Blvd); first LEFT onto Forward/Shady; STRAIGHT through Forbes, then Wilkens; RIGHT onto Fifth; STRAIGHT through Penn onto Washington Blvd; RIGHT onto Highland Dr; up hill into VA complex.

From Points East

From Turnpike Exit 5 (Allegheny Valley), you will exit RIGHT onto Freeport Road.  At the 3^rd stoplight, turn RIGHT onto Route 910.  You will drive underneath Route 20 (Divided 4-lane).  Stay in RIGHT lane that will loop you onto Route 28 heading SOUTH towards Pittsburgh.  Stay on Route 28 South until you see signs for the Highland Park Bridge (get in left lane). Take Bridge Exit and stay in left lane.  You will cross the bridge and proceed around a cloverleaf and it will feed you onto Allegheny River Blvd.  At first stoplight, go RIGHT onto Washington Blvd. Get in left lane and at first stoplight, make a left onto Highland Drive (Leech Farm Road).  Follow signs up the hill to the VA (keep left at the Y midway up the hill). 

From Points North

Following Route 8 South, get onto the 62^nd Street Bridge; LEFT onto Butler/Allegheny River Blvd; RIGHT onto Washington Blvd; LEFT onto Highland Drive (Leech Farm Road) and follow signs up the hill to the VA complex.
